Project Title: Shoemakers Museum

Construction Value: £4,100,000 (excl. VAT)
Completion Date: August 2025

Description: The Shoemakers Museum in Street, Somerset opened in September 2025 and invites visitors to explore 200 years of shoemaking heritage—from the very beginnings of Clarks in this village to its global cultural impact. Featuring four permanent galleries, the museum presents a rich mix of industrial, social and design history alongside a collection of over 100,000 objects. It’s a place where local stories, craftsmanship and innovation meet in a beautifully restored historic complex—making it both a heritage destination and a living celebration of footwear, design and community.

“Myles was Project Manager from the beginning of the capital development project to build Shoemakers Museum. He very much assisted in keeping the project on programme and made us aware of all the risks and how these could be mitigated. There were some very tricky moments during the course of the basebuild, for example, the ecology was not straightforward and dictated the work sequence and timeframe, drainage caused some angst, and asbestos and existing gas and water mains finds did not help, but Myles was very much part of the team that helped us to overcome these difficulties and move forward with the project. Our new Shoemakers Museum is something that we are all proud to have worked on as the end result is magnificent.”
